Amazing Grace
This distinctive arrangement of the well loved American hymn was influenced by the music of the African American womens's a cappella group, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Three independant /interdependent treble lines are supported by a solid bass line sung by the second altos. Arranged in A/B/A fashion, the middle verse is given a more traditional homophonic hymn-like treatment.
This SSAA arrangement translates easily to mixed choir.

Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
